About us
An institution that brings training where there is none
Asociación Yapey Yurijcuna - Renacer is a Peruvian association that has trained people with disabilities for independence in the Huánuco region of central Peru since 2009. Its name comes from the two languages of the area, Quechua and Spanish, and in both it means “to be reborn.”
Renacer doesn’t wait for people to come to a center. It works with families, communities and local institutions, such as the municipalities that provide venues, meals and transportation, and CONADIS, where participants are registered. That is how training takes root locally. Today Renacer operates in five districts of Huánuco and Pasco.
Technical training is not an end in itself. Each trade is paired with psychosocial support and work with the family. These three pillars aim not just at an income but at a more independent and dignified life.

Our approach
We start from potential, not diagnosis
Across much of rural Peru, making a living depends above all on physical labor. For generations, that has left people with disabilities with no way to learn a trade or support themselves. In the cities there are a few opportunities. In the countryside, almost none.
Renacer works in those villages, starting not from a diagnosis but from each person’s potential, from what they can learn and develop. It tries with everyone, as far as productive training can reach. When training reaches its limits, the support doesn’t stop. It continues with the family and through the connection to CONADIS.
Hence the name. For many of these people, learning a trade, registering with CONADIS and beginning to earn an income of their own is, quite literally, a second chance. To be reborn.

Leadership
Richard Diego Roque
Director and co-founder. Sociologist and master metalworker.
He leads the association and represents it to the institutions and partner organizations that support it. His work doesn’t stop at management. He still teaches in the workshops, which keeps the leadership close to what happens on the ground every day.
Alongside him is a team that sustains the projects every day, workshop by workshop and community by community.
